Objectives

O1

The first objective is to develop and implement a compact system capable of rapidly transforming a LED light source (vehicle rear lights or traffic light) into a vehicular VLC transmitter, facilitating the rapid integration of the VLC technology within the existing lighting infrastructure.

O2

The second objective is to design and implement novel high-performance VLC receivers for vehicle safety applications that are able to support mobile vehicular applications, by integrating context-adaptive features. The development of this novel architecture will be possible after performing an up-to-date literature analysis concerning the new trends in self-aware hardware and software systems and after a careful investigation concerning the vehicular VLC channel characteristics in mobile conditions.

O3

The third objective is to experimentally evaluate, test and optimize the performances of the proposed VLC prototypes. These tests will be firstly performed in various laboratory conditions (i.e. communication distances, orientations, lighting conditions, lighting perturbations, etc.), in outdoor conditions (i.e. under variate meteorological conditions, under different sunlight powers and various sun orientations, etc.), and in the end, in mobile conditions with the VLC systems mounted on real vehicles.

O4

The fourth objective is to maintain and further develop our young research team, by financially supporting two highly performant PhD students and by contributing with original and high-impact results to their theses.

O5

The fifth objective is to increase the visibility of our research group and to contribute to the international visibility of University of Suceava and of the Romanian research by publishing high quality and novel research results in the area of vehicular VLC.

O6

The sixth objective is to develop and write a European Research Project Funding Application (i.e. European Research Council - Starting Grants) that will provide the financial support to further maintain and strength our research team by attracting new PhD students and young researchers. This objective also aims to consolidate the existing national and international partnerships and to establish new academic and industrial collaborations.
